More Than Gamers (MTG) is gaining traction for its ambitious plan, with non-fungible token (NFT) trade volumes on the rise.
On December 23, its 10,000-item profile image (PFP) collection sold out in under a minute, and it is now trading at 0.49 ETH as of press time. By trading volume, the project is the seventh most popular collection on OpenSea in the last week.
Owners of the NFTs will be able to participate in the project's "MTG Battle Station" game, where they can trade their NFTs for Arcadia and Lifeline tokens.
In an interview with CoinDesk, MTG co-founder Aaron Kirshenberg said, "We want to illustrate how gaming can be a lifestyle brand." "Gamers can be singers, athletes, and a variety of other highly motivated individuals. Our goal is to become the NFT's largest gaming community."
It hasn't been an easy sale so far. Gamers were outraged when Ubisoft disclosed intentions to add NFTs to a popular game. When STALKER 2 announced – and then swiftly canceled – its NFT plans, the same controversy ensued.
Kirshenberg, on the other hand, is hopeful that his background will alter the equation. He's also the creator of Team New Age, a rapidly expanding esports organization in North America.
Champion, a sportswear company, will be MTG's first big metaverse partner, providing exclusive access to virtual products and wearables on the MTG platform.

Plans for expansion
MTG has also received a seed round from QGlobe, a metaverse investment firm helmed by Sarah Austin, an industry veteran and co-founder. Austin told CoinDesk that the company has enormous plans for MTG, including a possible IPO to fund the creation of its own metaverse ecosystem, similar to Decentraland and The Sandbox.
In an interview with CoinDesk, Austin said, "We haven't seen one significant metaverse emerge as the platform yet." "It's all about the community, and when you have a community of gamers and early adopters like MTG, it's a really exciting future."
