Leading US College Introduces Bitcoin Curriculum for Students

Adoption of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency courses in classrooms is on the rise, with Texas A&M University now being the latest college in the US to offer such a course to its 74,000+ students. The course, titled "Bitcoin Protocol" will be taught by Korok Ray, an Associate Professor at Mays Business School at Texas A&M. The course will be available to students in the College of Engineering and Mays Business School starting from the Spring semester which begins on January 17th.

Associate Professor Korok Ray announced the news on a 4-part Twitter thread, stating that the course "Programming Bitcoin" will follow the "Bitcoin Protocol" course, where students will learn to develop a Bitcoin library from scratch. Ray mentioned that it was a challenging task to secure approval from the school's curriculum committee, which came after months of hard work.

According to crypto researcher Josh Cowell, a lack of high-quality education in cryptocurrency has been identified as a major hurdle in advancing its adoption. He believes that proper education can enhance financial literacy. Cointelegraph attempted to contact Ray to inquire about the number of students enrolled in the class but did not receive an immediate reply. Additionally, US colleges are now also offering courses on the legal and regulatory aspects of blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies.

Texas A&M University joins a growing list of prestigious institutions offering courses on cryptocurrency, including Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Oxford University, National University of Singapore, Cornell University, and University of California Berkeley.
