About five hours ago, a Reddit member going by the moniker Nwa1g claimed to have discovered a scammer on Instagram impersonating Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin.
This individual or a group of individuals is accused of "roping followers into traditional crypto schemes."
On Instagram, Vitalik Buterin impersonated a Redditor who wrote about the "extremely hazardous nasty fraud" and requested the Ethereum community to upvote his post so that something might be done about it.
According to him, Vitalik Buterin does not have an official Instagram account, thus the accused scammer is using Vitalik's Twitter handle at @vitalik.eth to take advantage of it. There are 643,000 followers on this account.
Nwa1g further stated that reporting the impostor is impossible because Buterin does not have an official account on that social media network. On Instagram, though, there is a @buterin official account with 576,000 followers.
According to the Redditor, the bogus account is based in Israel and uploads "harmless sponsor advertising on images with Vitalik." Surprisingly, the Reddit member claims that this Instagram account has been active for more than two years — since 2019.

“They are stealing from people”
According to Nwa1g, the people behind the fraudulent account entice followers to send them direct messages (under the impression that they are writing to Vitalik Buterin), and this is when they become victims of classic cryptocurrency scams – sending their seed phrases or coins to these scammers in the hopes of receiving 3x cryptocurrency in return. Users have also reported receiving fraudulent links in their DMs from this account.
